Edward has taken it on himself to heal the breach between Peridot and Tamsin. He can't get Peridot to talk about it, or listen to him talk about it, so he tries to see if he can reason with Tamsin.
"Uma told Peridot that I didn't squeal on her for stealing newspapers, but she went and stole my boyfriend, anyway, even though she knew it wasn't me that got her grounded."

The newspaper stealing is a new revelation to Edward; what kind of girl is he dating, anyway? He files that tidbit away for later consideration, right now he wants to focus on the other new piece of the puzzle he's just received. "Are you positive that Uma told Peridot you didn't tell on her? Because Peridot still belives you are the reason she got grounded. She's never mentioned Uma being involved in this at all." And it seems pretty obvious to Edward that if Uma is involved, that's the source of the problem right there.
"Uma promised she would tell Peridot for me," Tamsin says, "I assumed that she did. Why wouldn't she?"
"I have no idea what motives Uma would have, but I know that she didn't tell Peridot anything, or at least didn't make it believable, because Peridot is sure you got her grounded. It's a shame really, she's not so much angry at that anymore, she's more upset about the fact that you've beaten her in a fight. I wish I could see a way for you two to get over all this and become friends."
"Actually we're even on the fight scores right now, I've won three, she's won three," Tamsin observes.
"You're keeping score?"
Tamsin smiles and points to her forehead, "It's a habit, I keep track of all my game stats."

Peridot is a gamer, too. Edward has observed many similarities between these two enemies, and wishes he could make them see they should be friends. He fears he has no chance of changing Peridot's mind, but Tamsin is more easygoing and willing to forgive. Edward wishes Peridot could be more like Tamsin in that regard, and finds himself wishing maybe he'd met Tamsin before he met Peridot.
