Chapter 4, page 1

"Thanks for letting me and Lilith stay with you until I can get back on my feet, Jen," Daniel Pleasant says over breakfast with his sister after he sends his daughter off to school.

"No problem," Jennifer answers, "It's a good thing I have the spare rooms on the third floor." Of course, Jennifer never saw those rooms as 'spare', they were her studio and office. Now she has to keep her easel out on the balcony and her drafting table in storage, all because her brother is a fool who managed to screw up his marriage and lose his job at the same time.

"It was totally unfair of them to kick me off the team," Daniel complains, "It was just recreational drugs, it's not like I was doping for performance enhancement."

"You'll need to get some type of job, as soon as you can," Jennifer prods, "So you and Lilith can get your own place."

Daniel goes out to get the paper to search the want ads, and finds something far better out walking in front of the house, Ariadne Caliente. Now that he's a widower, he can make his amorous pursuits out in the open, rather than always sneaking around as he used to do.

As she rushes out to work, Jennifer notices with dismay that her brother has started inviting the local harlots into her house. After dinner, she's going to have a talk with her irresponsible older brother. Right now, she's running late, and Jennifer makes a point of always being punctual.
